抗生素已越来越多地用于家畜,用来预防和治疗疾病以及促进生长。然而,在世界范围内的大多数国家,抗生素的使用受到限制,这是由于抗生素耐药性的问题,影响到人类的健康。

Antibiotics have been increasingly used in farm animals both to prevent and treat diseases as well as to promote growth. However, in most countries world wide the use of antibiotics is now restricted due to problems with antimicrobial resistance, which directly affects human health.

 

现在,畜牧业面临的最大挑战之一是减少抗生素的使用,同时保持高水平的动物性能。这如同将卫生保健、饲料成分和农场管理都放在放大镜下,即使是小瑕疵也会变得明显。

Today, one of the biggest challenges in animal husbandry is to reduce the use of antibiotics while maintaining animal performance on a high level. Health and hygiene, feed composition and farm management are all laying under a magnifying glass. Small imperfections will become visible.

Looking at feed, more attention needs to be paid to raw material quality and origin, feed processing and the use of feed additives. Framelco developed a range of non-antibiotic feed additives to promote animal health. Short and medium chain fatty acids have well been proven to support gastrointestinal health and animal performance. They are therefore widely used in the feed industry. However, they are only bactericidal in their undissociated form at a low pH, like in the stomach or gizzard.

The α-monoglycerides of specific short and medium chain fatty acids, developed and patented by Framelco, are pH-independent. They are therefore much more powerful in their antibacterial effect. The α-monoglycerides are an important nutritional tool to safely reduce the use of antibiotics in animal husbandry.

As the routine use of antibiotics is no longer accepted, the term ‘eubiosis’ has made its entry. It is a completely new way of approaching animal health: from fighting the microflora with antibiotics, towards supporting and cooperating with the favourable microflora. Eubiosis refers to an optimal balance of the microflora of the gastrointestinal tract. It is one of the key factors for optimal animal performance. Feed additives can be a very helpful tool to promote eubiosis and to overcome an imbalance in the microflora of the gastrointestinal tract, also known as ‘dysbiosis’.

The strategy which combines nutritional knowledge with the use of different modern non-antibiotic feed additives is defined as ‘eubiotic nutrition’. Framelco has carried out extensive research in this area and developed three successful factors in eubiotic nutrition to optimise animal health and performance:

Feed efficiency is one of the most important indicators in modern animal husbandry. It depends on many factors like animal health, genetics, quality of the feed and environment, and reflects how efficient a certain feed strategy turns out in practice. Improving feed efficiency is one of the most important factors to improve profitability and to achieve high and sustainable growth. Feed efficiency becomes even more important as governments pay increasing attention to the environmental impact of animal production.

 

为了支持高效和可持续的动物生产,Framelco提出了“益生营养”的概念。益生营养将现代营养原理与使用非抗生素饲料添加剂相结合,以获得最佳的饲料效率和盈利能力。

To support efficient and sustainable animal production, Framelco developed the concept of ‘eubiotic nutririon’. Eubiotic nutrition combines modern nutritional principles with the use of non-antibiotic feed additives to achieve optimal feed efficiency and profitability

 

 

肠道健康

 

胃肠道的健康和功能构成了可持续动物生产的基础。关键在于细菌的多样性。在反刍动物和猪中,可以识别出300到1000个独特的物种,而火鸡和鸡肉中的这一数量甚至更高,超过2200个物种。

Gastrointestinal health and functionality form the basis of sustainable animal production. The key word is bacterial diversity. In ruminants and swine, between 300 to 1000 unique species can be identified, while this number in turkeys and chicken is even higher with more than 2200 species.

 

微生物的定植从出生时开始,并在生命中不断发展和改变物种的多样性。影响这一过程的因素有很多,如抗生素治疗、压力和饲料转换。受干扰的微生物群含有大量有害细菌,这些细菌会使乳酸杆菌过度生长。这导致腹泻、免疫功能受损、饲料效率降低和动物性能降低。

Microbial colonization begins at birth and continues to develop and change in species diversity through life. Several factors are of influence on this process, like antibiotic treatment, stress and feed transitions. A disturbed microflora contains a large quantity of harmful bacteria which will overgrow the lactobacilli. This results in diarrhoea problems, an impaired immune function, lower feed efficiency and a lower animal performance

Fortunately, recent developments show that it is indeed possible to exert a positive influence on the balance in the microflora and thus gastrointestinal health and functionality. Several feed and management factors contribute to this balance. Framelco conducted extensive research in this area in partnership with several universities and research institutes as well as on practical farms. It turned out that selected α-monoglycerides demonstrate a strong positive effect on gastrointestinal health and animal performance. The patented application of α-monoglycerides is unique in its kind.
